The category Furnishings includes a variety of small items such as textile stamps, spice jars, household items and the like. One of the most popular are the wooden textile stamps used to create continuous designs on fabric. The motifs are geometric and vegetal. The stamps are very popular for use on paper and other graphic materials as well as for fabric. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes.
Also much in demand are the wooden spice boxes from the Afghan/Pakistan border area. This area has a long tradition of wooden items: spice boxes, carved and painted furniture, chairs etc. The boxes are commonly lacquered with a rich reddish to brownish color into which designs may be etched, or painted over in a variety of reds, browns, yellows and blacks. The boxes are circular and have a lid with finial on top. As the name suggests they were used to store spices in. We have both old ones dating from as early as the 19th century and others created for today’s market. The majority are about 6" to 12" in diameter. The new ones also come in very small sizes as decorative items.
Other items include small tables, spoons and other utensils used in the household which we occasionally have in our inventory.
